I always use HostelWorld to book my hostels. I find the reviews mostly reliable - I usually only choose hostels 9.0 and above now as I've gotten a bit pickier!!

I use Monzo to avoid any extra charges when tapping by card abroad. It is really easy to use and good for tracking spending on holiday. It also pops up how much you have spent in your own currency instantly when completing a purchase.
